The Eifel offers a wide range of activities, whether on foot or by bike. The well-known circular hiking trails are known asthe “EifelSpuren”and“EifelSchleifen.”

For those looking for a challenging hike, the Wilderness Trail —which consists of four different stages—is the perfect choice.

The Castle Trail, which is 17 km or 21 km long, is also a great option for a day trip, where you can soak up the history and enjoy the surrounding nature.

Reifferscheid Castle (about 1 km away)

Located right in the village, Reifferscheid Castle offers an idyllic view. The castle grounds are easy to explore on foot, and the tower provides sweeping views of the village and the surrounding countryside. Reifferscheid Castle is part of the castle route mentioned above.

Steinfeld Abbey (approx. 10.8 km away)

Steinfeld Abbey is distinguished by the two white towers of the basilica and the monastic complex, whose history dates back 1,000 years.

Wohlfahrt Mine Visitor Center (approx. 5.8 km away)

The Grube Wohlfahrt visitor mine is a former lead-zinc mine where ore has been mined for more than 2,000 years. You can either take a virtual tour of the tunnel or explore it in person.

LVR Open-Air Museum in Kommern (approx. 23.7 km away)

With an area of over 100 hectares and some 78 historic buildings from the Prussian Rhine Province, the LVR Open-Air Museum in Kommern is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe.

Golf with a twist – Farm Golf is a fun variation on the traditional game of golf. The course is set up on a pasture where cows occasionally graze. So the goal isn’t just to get the ball into the hole in a few strokes, but also to avoid the cows along the way.

When there is enough snow in winter, the “Weißer Stein” ski resort is the perfect place for sledding, downhill skiing, and cross-country skiing.

Rhineland Game Reserve ( approx. 25.9 km away)

At the Rhineland Big Game Park , you can look forward to seeing red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, mouflon, wild boars, moose, Heck cattle, and ibex—some of them up close without any fences separating you. Hellenthal Bird of Prey Sanctuary & Wildlife Park (approx. 7.9 km away)

The Hellenthal Bird of Prey Sanctuary is one of the largest and oldest bird of prey sanctuaries in Europe. The entire wildlife enclosure covers an area of 65 hectares. The sanctuary is open to visitors year-round (including Sundays and holidays).

Lake Kronenburg (approx. 19.6 km away)

Lake Kronenburg is known as a popular spot for swimming and water sports, and you can walk around its 5-kilometer perimeter. Please note: Due to ongoing technical work following the 2021 flooding, the lake is unfortunately not yet open to the public this year.

Lake Rur ( approx. 25 km away)

Lake Rur is located in the heart of the Eifel National Park and offers a wide range of activities—from hiking and biking to water sports (swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, pedal boating, sailing, and much more).

Dieffenbach Water Park (approx. 8.5 km away)

On warm days, the Dieffenbach Water Park in Schleiden is the perfect place to cool off. It offers variety, fun, and relaxation for all ages.

Eifelbad ( approx. 32.1 km away)

The Eifelbad in Bad Münstereifel is an indoor swimming pool with an outdoor area and a large sunbathing lawn, making it a popular destination on both warm and cold days. Hellenthal Dam (approx. 7.3 km away)

The Oleftalsperre Hellenthal reservoir has a circumference of 13.5 km and can be circumnavigated by bike or on foot. There is ample parking available in front of the Oleftalsperre reservoir.

Experience Nature

Eifel National Park

The Eifel National Park covers 110 square kilometers, where many wild animals roam through pristine mixed forests. You can explore the national park on your own or with a ranger.

Vogelsang IP (approx. 15.5 km away)

At Internationaler Platz in the Eifel National Park, you can experience nature while learning about history. The so-called NS-Ordensburg Vogelsang is a complex of buildings constructed by the Nazis and located within the national park. In the interactive exhibition“Wildnis(t)räume,”you’ll learn all about the flora and fauna of the national park through all your senses. For history buffs, we recommend the exhibition“Destiny: Master Race. Nazi Ordensburgen Between Fascination and Crime.”
