Hikes

The Eifel offers a wide range of activities, whether on foot or by bike. The well-known circular hiking trails are known asthe “EifelSpuren”and“EifelSchleifen.”

Reifferscheid Castle (about 1 km away)

Located right in the village, Reifferscheid Castle offers an idyllic view. The castle grounds are easy to explore on foot, and the tower provides sweeping views of the village and the surrounding countryside. Reifferscheid Castle is part of the castle route mentioned above.

Steinfeld Abbey (approx. 10.8 km away)

Steinfeld Abbey is distinguished by the two white towers of the basilica and the monastic complex, whose history dates back 1,000 years.

Wohlfahrt Mine Visitor Center (approx. 5.8 km away)

The Grube Wohlfahrt visitor mine is a former lead-zinc mine where ore has been mined for more than 2,000 years. You can either take a virtual tour of the tunnel or explore it in person.

LVR Open-Air Museum in Kommern (approx. 23.7 km away)

Lake Kronenburg is known as a popular spot for swimming and water sports, and you can walk around its 5-kilometer perimeter. Please note: Due to ongoing technical work following the 2021 flooding, the lake is unfortunately not yet open to the public this year.

Eifel National Park

The Eifel National Park covers 110 square kilometers, where many wild animals roam through pristine mixed forests. You can explore the national park on your own or with a ranger.

Vogelsang IP (approx. 15.5 km away)

At Internationaler Platz in the Eifel National Park, you can experience nature while learning about history. The so-called NS-Ordensburg Vogelsang is a complex of buildings constructed by the Nazis and located within the national park. In the interactive exhibition“Wildnis(t)räume,you’ll learn all about the flora and fauna of the national park through all your senses.
